Round Two Update
- May 9th 2024
Moving day, home cooking, and mother nature, again!!
Moving day has long been a tradition where golfers position themselves towards the top of the leaderboard for the final day push. While you cannot win the tournament on day two you can certainly make it easy on yourself with a strong round. Graham McAree and Beau Breault each produced opening round scores of 66 on Wednesday to get the event started. Thursday’s second round found each of these players with their foot on gas as they continued to take advantage of a soft golf course with low scores.
With a second-round score of 65 McAree finds himself at the top of the leaderboard with a 131 total. After playing the front nine in even par he soared to the top with 3 birdies and an eagle on the 17th hole securing a one-shot lead heading to the final round. Breault, the 2021 Champion, fired a second straight 66 to join Owen Quinn, 68-64, and Willie Mack, 67-65 in second place.
Michael Davan had the round of the day using nine birdies and an eagle two on tenth to card a 63, which is also the low round of the event. Davan birdied five of the first six holes before bogeys on holes seven and eight slowed his momentum. The eagle then jumped started his back nine as he added four straight birdies on holes fourteen thru seventeen to offset a lone bogey on eleven.
Sometimes all a golfer needs is a bit of home cooking to find the groove. For defending champion Daniel Wetterich Clovernook, and its yummy soul food, is just the right recipe to kick start his game. Having the library of home course knowledge at his disposal Wetterich followed a somewhat disappointing opening round 70 with a bogey free round of 64. Five birdies and an eagle 2 on the twelfth, driving the green and sinking a long putt, can certainly fulfill a golfer’s hunger pain.
Unfortunately, mother nature showed up at 6:57, suspending play for the evening, and leaving twelve golfers in need of an early morning return to the course to finish their second round. Once these players have finished, pairings for the final round will be determined as the low 40 players and ties return on Friday.
Final round tee times will start at 10:00 with the final group hitting tee shots off the first hole at 2:00. With thirteen golfers within 3 shots of the lead tomorrow is going to be filled with fireworks. Who’s going to be “The Man”, other than tournament starter Griz Jacobs, when it’s all over? That’s yet to be determined but the “Big Check” is going to someone, and we invite you to join us for the final round and the party to follow.
